Music at St. James'
Our music director
Alice VanWambeke is our organist and Director of the St. James' Adult Choir, who sing a wide variety of repertoire, including sacred classical anthems, spirituals, and music of living composers. She is also director of the Children’s Choir.
Our adult choir helps lead worship nearly every Sunday from September through Trinity Sunday (June 12). Rehearsals are on Wednesdays beginning at 7:00 pm in the choir room. All are welcome to join the adult choir.
Our organ
Our organist plays on the historic Erben organ built in 1857 by Henry Erben, a well-known New York organ builder of the time. It was restored by Dana Hull and a dedicated group of St.James’ parishioners, led by Mickey Sloan. In 1995, during the 40th Annual Convention of Organ Historical Society, it was honored with an historic plaque recognizing it as “an instrument of exceptional historic merit”, worthy of preservation”.
