The Liberty Brass Ensemble

For 25 years The Liberty Brass Quintet has been creating wonderful musical memories, having performed wedding ceremonies, receptions and concerts in such venues as First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, Hill Auditorium, Stone Cliff Mansion and Mission Pointe Resorts on Mackinaw Island, Knox Presbyterian Church in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, King's College Chapel in Oxford, England and Coventry Cathedral, Coventry, England, and a hosts of churches and venues throughout southeast Michigan.
From Bach to the Beatles, from Ellington to Ewald and Strauss to Sousa, these talented Michigan musicians have 5 distinct performing personalities which combined with a repertoire of classical, pop, jazz and the whimsical, created an evening full of musical merriment, leaving the audience asking for more.

Sunday, October 23th, 4:00 p.m.
Flutists ranging from high school age through adults, both amateurs and professionals performed works by Gary Shocker, Sony Burnette, Percy Grainger, and others.

Family Concert by Gemini
Sunday May 1st, 4:00 p.m. at St. James
Gemini sang children's songs, accompanied by guitar, and the youth choir at St.James!
They once again delighted children and families. A good time was had by all.
A Festival of Hymns
Sunday, April 3rd, 4:00 p.m. at St. Andrews United Church of Christ
The adult choirs of St.Andrews, and St.James in Dexter, presented, "A Festival of Hymns", the writers tell their story, by Hal Hopson.
The concert spanned hymns from the 1500's to the present, and include narratives by each of the composers (enacted complete with costume) giving a short history of each hymn.
The audience was invited to sing with the choirs, which will be accompanied on organ and piano by St.Andrew's director of music, Paula Allison-England, and directed by Alice Van Wambeke, music director of St.James Episcopal Church.
The Liberty Brass Quartet, tympani, and the handbell choir of St.Andrew's accompanied the choirs, and made for a marvelous sound!
White Rose String Quartet debut performance
Sunday, March 20th, 4:00 p.m. at St. James
This is the second concert of this year's season proved to be most enjoyable!
The group played a variety of music, everything from standard, classical string quartet music, to familiar tunes by the Beatles as well as songs from Broadway shows.
World Day of Prayer
How Many Loaves Have You?
On Friday March 4th, 55 people joined together for the ecumenical worship service prepared by the women of Chile
The food was wonderful, the Chilean displays informative, and all of those loaves of bread disappeared!
A wonderful enactment of the scripture for the children made the service very special.
Next year the worship will take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The service is being prepared by the women in Malaysia.

Sixth Annual Cookie Walk
Saturday, December 4, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
St. James joined downtown merchants, churches, Historical Society, Senior Citizens and other community organizations for a festive beginning of the holiday season in Dexter.
St James' Concert Series
Sunday, October 24th, 4 p.m.
The first of St. James' concert series featured "Willis Patterson Our Own Thing Chorale" directed by Willis Patterson. The chorale, which sang at St. James' several years ago, sang a variety of music including spirituals, gospel, and standard sacred music.
Pumkin Carving: With Cider and Donuts

Movie Screening: "For The Bible Tells Me So"
Folks from Ann Arbor, Dexter, and Chelsea joined together on Sunday, October 10th to view the thought provoking movie "For the Bible Tells Me So". The movie followed five Christian families as they told their stories of having a GLBT child in their family. We were moved, saddened, and inspired by the movie, and talked about how we might reach out to GLBT youth and young adults in pro-active ways. If you are inrerestd in learning more about the evening, see Mother Carol or a member of the bishop's committee.

Title: The University of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Michigan
Location: St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 218 W. Ottawa St., Lansing
Cost: $15 per person; $8 additonal for lunch
Choosing from more than thirty (30) offerings will be a challenge. With your team, study the "Workshop Descriptions" and create a list of workshops that you all agree are an absolute must. Schedule your team into all the workshops you would like to cover in order to bring back as many ideas and as much information as possible.
A "Pick Up" choir will be assembled. Registration: 8 a.m.

World Day of Prayer 2010
A CD of the worship service of the 2010 World Day of Prayer will be available to anyone wishing to borrow it. St. James will be the host church when the women from Chile will offer us their worship service.
